Let’s Talk Filters

Today, I wanna talk about FILTERS.

We all loooooove filters, right?! Puppy faces, quizzes, and grainy presets make our stories so much more ~aesthetic~ and playful.

But have you ever seen someone else use a filter that you didn’t have? Here’s how you can save it so that you can use it yourself:

STEP 1: Tap the name of the filter you’re loving seeing people use in the top left corner…

STEP 2: You can either try it now, or save it to your filters!

STEP 3: Now it’s in your Story camera view to use whenever you want (just scroll to the ones on the LEFT)!!

THIS is how you build a library of fun, engaging filters to use in your Stories!!

Just a few benefits of using AR filters…

They give our Stories a more put-together look and feel, and allow you to build a brand aesthetic!
They make your stories MORE ENGAGING! People are more likely to interact with them, either to react, try the filter for themselves, or even DM you.

More engagement = more visibility, both for that set of Stories and your future Stories
They help make you more confident and excited on video, which is always a major PLUS!!

So the next time you see a fun filter on Stories, try it out for yourself!! And then use those filters to create more engaging Stories for your audience to interact with.

My Top Instagram Profile Tips

Here are my top IG profile tips:

1) Your Profile Picture

Choose an on-brand profile picture! This could be your logo, but remember that people love getting to know YOU, so don’t be afraid to use a photo.

2) Your Account Name

Choose the right name! Your “name” section doesn’t have to be your actual name – and most of the time it SHOULDN’T be. If you say what you do + who you serve in your name, not only is it more searchable, but it means the FIRST thing people see will be all about what you do and what to expect from your account!

3) Your Bio Description

Keep your bio SHORT and SWEET! Don’t overcomplicate it. Be clear about what you do and who you want around.

4) Your Call-to-Action

Have a clear CALL TO ACTION (CTA)!! Whatever you’re promoting at the moment – whether it’s a freebie, a mastermind, a product, or anything else – make sure it’s linked in your bio, tell people what’s there, and then actually TELL them to CLICK on the link!! Don’t have more than one CTA, and make sure the link goes STRAIGHT to whatever you’re promoting.

5) Your Highlights

Have beautiful, simple highlight covers! Your story highlights are SUPER important for new profile viewers, so covers should be ON-BRAND and SIMPLE – a plain icon on a single color background is great. Use Canva for tons of highlight cover templates.

Edit the Stories in your highlights, too! If you’ve been using highlights for a while, you may have a few that have accumulated WAY too many Stories within them, so go through and clean ‘em up. Make sure you’ve got a social proof highlight too full of fabulous testimonials or reviews, and definitely one about what you’re currently promoting!

Follow these tips for epic, on-brand, compelling bios that CONVERT profile viewers and help your audience grow!!

#074 – Hacking Profitability with Amanda Bond (Online Marketing, DM Conversions, Asking for and Closing the Sale)

Over the past few years, I have shifted my focus from growing my following, to converting my followers into clients. And I’m proud to say we’ve made more money in the last six months than I ever had in any year of my business beforehand.

I look at people who are just getting started and their obsession with followers. Back then, I wish someone had told me, “You’ve got it all backwards. Let’s shine a light on what you *really* need to be focusing on.”

That’s exactly why we recorded this episode.

Amanda is such an great person to have this conversation with. She’s excellent at lead generation and conversational selling.

  • She has made $40,000 in the Instagram DM’s alone.
  • She’s made half a million dollars with only one landing page.
  • She made $1 million before they even had 5,000 email subscribers.

I wish that eight years ago I could have listened to this episode because it would’ve been a GAME CHANGER.

It’s an inside look into how to hack profitability by knowing how to deliver *exactly* what they need. Because that’s what’s going to bring you massive profitability.

THINGS YOU’LL LEARN:

  • Why you should *stop* obsessing over followers, and what you should be obsessing over instead
  • How Amanda made $40,000 in the Instagram DM’s alone.
  • How she made half a million dollars with only one landing page.
  • How she made $1 million before they even had 5,000 email subscribers.

How to overcome self-doubt

6:3 - fb g+

Do you ever doubt yourself? If so, you are not alone. Doubt bubbles up in ALL of us, some more than others. I can’t tell you how many influential, inspiring, and successful people I have met who doubt themselves. We feel as though we aren’t good enough, we wonder if we’ll ever really “make it”, we question ourselves and our own integrity, we feel like imposters, and we feel like fakes.

Today I want to share with you a very powerful way to eliminate doubt from your life.

Because doubt drastically affects your energy field. And your energy field, believe it or not, is what’s communicating with the Universe on a daily basis, and it’s what attracts your each and every life experience. So your state of being really matters. And there’s zero room for doubt if you want to succeed.

What I’ve come to realize is that it’s up to us to eliminate that fear and doubt from our minds whenever it pops up. And it’s 100% doable.

How do you do this, though? How do you eliminate thoughts that seem so real, and so permanent?

Here’s the secret: You just DECIDE.

Decide that you will not let your fear and self-doubt get in the way of being the best you that there ever was. Decide that you will keep chasing that dream of yours, day in, day out no matter what. Decide that you are destined for greatness. Decide that the Universe does, actually, have your back.

6:3 - insta 2

Say it out loud:

“I DECIDE THAT I AM DESTINED FOR GREATNESS”

FEEL IT throughout your entire body as you say it:

“I DECIDE THAT I WILL NOT LET FEAR OR SELF-DOUBT GET IN MY WAY. I DECIDE TO BE CONFIDENT AND DECISIVE.”

Whenever I’m feeling down in the blues, doubting myself, and my abilities, after I make the decision to put an END to the doubt, I do this for double confirmation:

I pretend that God has come down and told me that I was destined for greatness, without a shadow of a doubt. I pretend that he has come down and given me full permission to shine my brightest, and that he’s given me a glimpse into my future that confirms all of today’s every desire.

“Make a choice. Just decide what it’s gonna be, who you’re gonna be, how you are going to do it. Just decide. And from that point, the universe will get out of your way.” – Will Smith

The power of an internal decision to JUST BELIEVE is incredible. It totally eliminates the fear, it doesn’t allow for it to exist, because you’ve made the decision that no matter what you WILL be successful.

With love and hugs and full belief in you and your dreams,
Alex
xoxo

you WILL experience this

Yesterday was a WHIRLWIND. I launched my new website and the response has been phenomenal. It’s amazing what the power of a new look can do for your online presence, and I’m super excited about it!

As part of today’s motivating daily letter, I want to talk to you about RISK.

Last night I was hanging out with two friends of mine who are also entrepreneurs. I always love spending time with them, because they totally get it. They have the drive, spark and hustle that you need when you’re trying to get your business to the next level, and its super inspiring.

Somehow, we found ourselves lost in conversation about the past, and everything we’ve done to bring ourselves to where we are today: full time business owners.

The one common denominator was: RISK.

6:1 - insta 1

Entrepreneurs are, more often than not, highly skilled people. Whether they are super smart within their businesses, have super social skills, or benefit from some other awesome talent – they are skilled. There’s no doubt about it.

And skilled people? Well, we have options.

When I graduated from college and decided to skip out on the corporate ladder, there were many people in my life who thought I was crazy. I graduated with a top bachelor’s degree in management with marketing, had a stellar background, and as far as many of my friends were concerned: the world was my oyster in the corporate world.

I saw things differently. I decided to pursue my own business and many people in my life saw this as a HUGE RISK to the future of my life as a whole. It was looked upon as “corporate suicide”.

6:1 - insta 2.dpng

Similarly, my friend walked out of college, even though he was one year away from finishing his bachelor’s degree, because he KNEW he wanted to be his own boss, and quite simply: he was hungry for it.

Again, people thought he was crazy. But he did it anyway.

He ended up getting a really good job after he left college, and he used it as a stepping stone to be able to build his business on the side. When his business had finally grown enough to support him quitting his job, people thought he was CRAZY.

He had endless opportunities with this company: he was well-liked in the company, had great relationships and opportunities, and he knew he could be making multiple six figures if he only stuck around for a few more years.

But he wanted something different for himself.

6:1 - fb g+
And so, in the life of any successful entrepreneur you will see risk.

As my friends and I looked back on our lives, and everything we risked and gave up to be where we are today, it was so easy to see now just how worth it those risks had been. At the time, though, when you’re in the middle of making that decision, when RISK is staring you straight in the face? Well, it’s not so easy.

Here’s the thing:
If you have a strong desire for yourself and for your life that involves running your own business, be prepared to risk it all. GET COMFORTABLE with risk. Be prepared to put everything on the line, but back it up with unwavering faith and belief in the fact that you will make it happen no matter what

Because that unwavering belief in yourself and in your idea is what, ultimately, will keep you strong during the rough times, and get you from point A to point B.

Here’s to more of us getting comfortable with risk! It’s actually a very beautiful thing.

Big hugs,
Alex

5 Tips For Dealing with Haters And Public Failure

5reminders

Having done a lot of work with entrepreneurs on their businesses and brands, there are certain patterns that I have started to see come up again and again. It’s funny how the same issues can appear in a variety of ways for different people and different businesses, BUT what it all comes down to is fear.

Today I want to talk to you about the fear of what everyone else thinks because I KNOW it concerns you. For many of you, like me, it’s YOUR NAME that’s on your business. And the fear of public failure can be paralyzing – because what will everyone think?

Here are five reminders to help get over fear of failure, and what others think of you:

1) You Are Not Your Achievements Or Failures

I refuse to judge myself based on my achievements or failures because they do not define me. And so, if I fail, it’s okay – because I WILL get up and keep going no matter what and I will not allow myself to feel “less than” or “not good enough” for experiencing failure.

2) Failure Is Not Bad

Listen to the life stories of the most interesting people on the planet and each story is full of failures – big failures, small failures, it really doesn’t matter. Ironically, the failure is, many times, what makes their stories so beautiful. Because what matters is how the individual deals with failure. Instead of looking at failure as this huge personal embarrassment, we need to look at failure as what it is:  a blessing in disguise, one of your greatest teachers, and quite simply, a part of life. Failure happens to every single one of us – no exceptions. So don’t let failure slow you down, use it as an awesome compass, a tool, a friend, a teacher, and a blessing in disguise.

3) Being Liked By Everyone Is Impossible

When I was in high school, I wanted to be liked by everyone, and no matter how hard I tried – it never happened. Although I was loved and appreciated by many for being so happy-go-lucky, many saw me as fake and contrived. I was viewed by many as “too nice”. At the time, this was crushing, but I now see what a great blessing in disguise this was for me because it taught me that it’s impossible to be liked by everyone. And so, I let go of the impossible desire to be liked – and I was free to just be me, no matter who liked it or not. It’s the same in business – you will create things that some people LOVE and other people HATE, and it’s all good!

4) Fitting In Is An Awful Business Strategy

Guess what? When you fit in, and you try to be liked by everyone – you may avoid haters, but you’re simultaneously avoiding super fans. So don’t be afraid to do something different. Don’t be afraid to try new things. Don’t be afraid to AUTHENTICALLY STAND OUT because THAT’S how you’ll get A LOT of positive attention.

5) Celebrate And Love Your Fans AND Your Haters

I’ve always said that if you’ve got haters, you must be doing something worth talking about – and that’s something to celebrate! Every time I send out an email to my VIP List, 50 people unsubscribe. FIFTY. But I don’t think twice about it – I KNOW that by them leaving, they are making space energetically for new, better-suited people to join my VIP List, and because of that – I celebrate. When people feel STRONGLY ENOUGH to email you hate mail, unsubscribe from your news feed, or take any other similar actions, remember that when you strongly repel people, it must simultaneously mean that you are strongly attracting people! CELEBRATE IT!

We all experience judgement from others, but all that matters is the truth. And YOU know the truth, it comes from within – you don’t need to find it elsewhere or in anyone else’s opinion of you.

Just to bring this point home, in the past 24 hours I’ve received 5 pieces of hate mail. And guess what? I’M STILL GOING, BABY, AND YOU ARE, TOO 😀

With love and hugs, bright wishes and energy,
Alex
xoxo

P.S. Here’s a little bit of encouragement for you from Oprah herself – never let the haters get you down, never give up, believe in yourself, and know that we are all in this together! (Skip to minute 5 if you want to get to the good part)

WHY I’ve been afraid of success.

why-ive-been-afraid-of-success

diary of an artistic entrepreneur
April 4th 2014 – 11:54am
Coffee Shop, sipping on a vanilla latte.

My previous diary entry left me acknowledging that I was afraid of success. Little did I know that the very next day, one single phone call would help me discover why I was afraid of success. The call came in at 7pm on the dot. A call that would have me in tears, a call that would leave me changed.

See, I used to get nervous about Skype calls. Whether it was a chat with an old friend, or an interview for a podcast – the nerves would get to me, and it was holding me back. And I hate when things hold me back.

So I made the decision to book myself silly with as many Skype calls as I possibly could. Because … there’s only one way to get over your fear of something, right? To jump into it. To live in it. To be one with it.

With Skype calls almost each and every single day since making that decision, so many good things have come my way. I’ve made new friendships, I’m part of new mastermind groups, and I’m even doing weekly soul-care sessions with Sasha. I’m proud of myself because now I slide into interviews and Skype conversations with ease. The fear and nerves are no longer a part of it.

And so, at 7pm on the dot, I picked up the Skype call with ease and confidence, and as Michelle* walked me through the process of her intuitive business consultations, I felt good.

This recent feeling of something “missing” within my business has been driving me crazy. It feels overwhelming, paralyzing, and confusing all at the same time. It’s like God is holding me up in the air, my feet are dangling, and I’m trying to run full speed ahead, but I can’t get anywhere because I’m suspended two feet off the ground.

“Something is holding me back, and I just can’t put my finger on it.” I exclaimed to Michelle*.

Question after question we dug deeper into the problem, and before I knew it – the answer was staring me straight in the face.

What does the next level of success for me look like? And why am I resisting it?

Since I’m the face and name of my business and brand, more success means more publicity. It means more eyes on me. It means the ability to inspire and motivate more people to start their own businesses and follow their dreams, which I LOVE – but it also means more sharing, more blog posts, more pictures, more insights, more personal thoughts.

And all of this inevitably means less privacy.

And something within me always cringed at the thought of less privacy.

As in – I wasn’t sure if I could really deal with less privacy.

And that’s where the block existed.

To me, the idea of achieving any more success would inevitably mean less privacy.

Michelle* probed deeper, “Why does privacy matter so much to you? Why does less privacy make you so uncomfortable?”

At first, I just couldn’t figure it out. But suddenly it came to me, without much effort at all, as though it appeared out of nowhere:

My entire childhood was spent growing up in places that simply weren’t safe. Caracas, Venezuela, a city where I spent five years of my childhood, has been named multiple times as the most dangerous city in the world.

And so it’s easy to understand that, as I was growing up, privacy equaled safety.

And so now, as an adult, it’s unknowingly been holding me back because my mind was making the following connections:

more success = less privacy
less privacy = less safety

therefore …
more success = less safety

And since the safety and wellbeing of my family always comes first, even above success, it was safer for me to settle for less success, because it meant more safety.

And there it was.

A belief that served to protect me in my childhood was no longer serving me as an adult.

WOW.

It blows my mind to have identified this block that I didn’t even know was affecting me, and to be able to remove it and overcome it. Like a boss 😉

Major a-ha moment? Totally.

I’m excited to share more, and to put more of ME online. But most of all, it’s incredible to truly understand, for the first time in my life, that there are MANY false beliefs that we pick up along our journey in life that hold us back every day.

New mission: Identify blocks + conquer. Oh yeah.

Maybe I AM afraid
diary of an artistic entrepreneur
April 2nd 2014 – 5:32pm
On my balcony in Tampa, Fl

circle

First and foremost, I’ve always been an artist. It comes naturally to me to approach every situation in business, relationships, and life in general, from a creative standpoint. The question that constantly swims in my head is … “How can I do this differently? How can I do this creatively?”  Approaching every situation as an artist makes life more interesting. And so I hold onto it. Artist within, I will never let you go.

As an entrepreneur, it leaves me in a pretty predicament.

I’m at a stage in my career where it’s up to me to define and create my lifestyle. Sasha* has done an excellent job of reminding me that one of the huge benefits we have as entrepreneurs is that we have the luxury of creating our own lifestyle to be exactly what we want it to be. And what a beautiful luxury, one I will never take for granted.

And so lately, the question at the top of my mind has been: what do I want my lifestyle to be? The words that immediately come to mind are freedom, balance, and adventure. I want to experience new things regularly. I want to laugh until I cry. I want to have a routine that’s strong enough to enrich my life, but flexible enough to allow space for my random whims of desire.

I have dreams that are so big and grand, but sometimes I find myself asking – is this what I REALLY want? Sitting at lunch today with Kristina**, I mentioned that lately I’ve been second guessing everything I’m doing. I mean … Do I really want to be the face of my business? Do I really want to keep putting myself out there in such a public, vulnerable way? What she said next literally stopped me in my tracks. “Are you afraid of success?”  .. . .  .. . . . . .. My initial reaction, without even thinking about it was … “uhhhhh NO!”. Because – helloooo … all I do is chase success. But then I thought about it more, allowing the question to really sink in. Maybe I AM afraid.

It’s funny how sometimes there’s fear living within you, holding you back, stopping you from moving forward in some way or another – all without you ever really noticing that it’s even there.

And so tonight, I will be sifting through deep fears and blocks that exist within me that are unknowingly holding me back, and doing everything I can to get rid of them. Which is perfect, because tonight I have a session with Michelle***, and she’s probably just the person I need to speak to.

The little things that keep me inspired

blog

Sometimes it’s the little things that keep me the most inspired. A few weeks ago I bought these three gorgeous gemstone crystal necklaces, and I’ve fallen in love with them.

For some reason, when I put one of them on each morning, it reminds me to be peaceful, clear, and focused, and they allow me to enter my workday with purpose and a feeling of intent. Why they have this effect on me – I have no idea, but I love it. 🙂

The three gemstones are Citrine, Amethyst and Quartz. Here’s the explanation of each gemstone that came with my Atelier Yumi necklaces:

“Carrying the power of the sun, Citrine energizes every level of life. Citrine energizes every level of life. Citrine promotes joy in life, raises self-esteem & confidence. Citrine attracts wealth, prosperity + success.”

Amethyst is a powerful healer and protector. It helps bring calmness, clarity, balance, patience and peace. Wear Amethyst to get in touch with your intuition, your feelings or your values.”

“Clear Quartz is known as the “master healer”. It is said to bring the energy of the stars into the soul, helping to align human thoughts & emotions with universal energies.”

So today I’m grateful for the little things, like these necklaces, that keep me inspired.

What are the little things in your life that keep you inspired? Leave a comment and let me know!
